Foreign Nationals
Tax-free shopping is available for purchases of ¥5,500 (¥5,000 excluding tax) or more in a single transaction.
Eligible customers are foreign nationals who do not have a residence in Japan and whose stay in Japan is less than 6 months. The status of residence must be one of the following: temporary visitor, diplomat, or official.
One of the following documents must be presented for tax-free procedures:
- Passport (with landing permission stamp)
- Crew member's landing permit
- Emergency landing permit
- Landing permit due to distress
- Transit passenger shore leave permit
Non-residents (foreign nationals without a residence in Japan with a stay of less than 6 months, Japanese nationals who have resided overseas for 2 or more years, diplomats, etc.) are eligible for tax-free purchases. Please present your passport during the tax-free procedure. A purchase record will be attached to your passport and collected by customs upon departure.
Japanese Nationals
Tax-free shopping is available for purchases of ¥5,500 (¥5,000 excluding tax) or more in a single transaction.
Your stay in Japan must be less than 6 months. You must provide the original of a certificate of residence overseas or a copy of the family register appendix (with residence information) proving that you have continuously resided overseas for 2 or more years.
In addition, one of the following documents must also be presented:
- Passport (with landing permission stamp)
- Crew member's landing permit
- Emergency landing permit
- Landing permit due to distress
- Transit passenger shore leave permit
Important Notes
- Please be careful not to lose your purchase record.
- Tax-free procedures are only available on the day of purchase.
- Tax-free items must be taken out of Japan within 6 months of purchase.
- Items purchased for business use are not eligible for tax-free.
- Diplomats should present their Tax Exemption Card and diplomatic identification.
- If you used the facial recognition gate, your passport may not have a landing permission stamp. Without the stamp, tax-free procedures cannot be performed, so please request a stamp after passing through the facial recognition gate.
